Packing and securing footwear
Shoes travel in individual boxes packed in master cartons on a pallet; leather and suede with desiccants. Cartons are not stacked higher than 4–5 layers: under pressure the heel counters deform. Pairs must be fastened together, and the size and model must be readable on the end of the carton.
Documents and permits
Footwear was the first category for which Chestny Znak labelling became mandatory: every pair gets a code before import. You need a declaration under TR CU 017/2011 (children’s footwear TR CU 007/2011) and a document confirming the upper and sole materials — the HS code in chapter 64 and the duty rate depend on them.
The costly mistake made most often
Duty rates within chapter 64 vary widely, and “simplified” classification by name instead of by sole and upper material leads to additional assessments and a fine. The second mistake is not ordering labelling codes for the full size range: pairs without codes are not released.
Which mode usually works out best
From Italy, Spain and Portugal: road groupage via Poland, 8–14 days; seasonal collections by air. From Asia: container deliveries, or groupage containers for small volumes. Footwear is light for its volume, so the rate is calculated on volumetric weight.
