Packing and securing machine tools and CNC equipment
The machine is preserved: slideways and spindle are coated with corrosion inhibitor, the electronics are wrapped in barrier film with silica gel, and moving assemblies are fixed with transport brackets according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The crate has ventilation openings and tilt and shock indicators — they are later used to prove an insurance claim.
Documents and permits
CNC machines need a certificate of conformity under TR CU 010/2011 and, if the control system has a radio module, TR CU 020/2011 on electromagnetic compatibility. Five-axis machining centres and a number of precision machine tools fall under EU export controls and licensing in Russia — the code and the end use must be checked before the supplier is paid, not at the border.
The costly mistake made most often
Removed transport brackets or poor preservation mean the machine arrives with its geometry out; re-alignment costs a noticeable share of the price. The second typical mistake is paying for a used machine in the EU without checking it against Regulation 833/2014: part of the codes in headings 8457–8463 are banned from export to Russia regardless of age and price.
Which mode usually works out best
Machines up to 3–4 tonnes travel on a dedicated truck with air suspension; large machining centres go by sea in a container, lashed to a surveyor’s plan. Groupage is not suitable for machine tools: transhipment at consolidation warehouses endangers the geometry. Transit from Germany by road takes 7–12 days, by sea via Rotterdam from 2 weeks.
Export controls and sanctions
We accept machine tools only after checking the exact HS code, the technical parameters and the end user against EU, UK and US export controls. Codes that are banned from export to Russia are declined, whatever the age or price of the machine.
