Shipping a 23-tonne crusher jaw from the United Kingdom to St Petersburg
An oversized 23-tonne crusher jaw travelled from the UK to St Petersburg on a flat-rack container and arrived undamaged and on time, in 25 days.
The task
Organise delivery of a jaw for a crushing plant from the United Kingdom to Russia. The 23-tonne item with large dimensions required specialised transport and reinforced securing for the sea voyage, as well as correct documentation under HS (TN VED) code 847490 without delays.
What we did
We used a flat-rack container with a reinforced lashing system, designed an individual stowage and securing plan, and used tensioning straps and protective padding.
The invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and documents for HS code 847490 were prepared in advance; customs clearance took place at the temporary storage terminal in Kronstadt by prior arrangement.
Result
The cargo reached St Petersburg undamaged and exactly on time — in 25 days. The right transport scheme reduced the client’s costs, and clearance without delays avoided storage charges.

What it means for a UK exporter
For heavy spare parts the classification matters as much as the lashing: a confirmed HS code, a certificate of origin and a consistent invoice and packing list let your customer’s declaration go through on the first attempt. Why the price is quoted this way
Groupage (LCL) freight is priced per cargo piece: from €200 per piece and from €500 per euro pallet. Project and out-of-gauge moves are always quoted individually, because the price depends on permits, special equipment and the lashing scheme rather than on a rate per kilometre.
