Shipping steel sheet from Belgium to the Moscow region
Two bundles of 2×6 m steel sheet, 22 tonnes in total, reached the Moscow region from Belgium in 20 days with no scratches or deformation.
The task
Organise multimodal transport of steel sheet — two bundles of 2×6 m sheets weighing 22 tonnes in total — from Belgium to Russia, keeping the surface coating intact, with fast transhipment and prompt customs clearance.
What we did
We chose an Open Top sea container, which allowed the long sheets to be loaded without risk of deformation and lashed securely. The route: Antwerp to Rotterdam by sea, then by sea to St Petersburg and by curtainsider truck to the Moscow region.
The EX export declaration, invoices and packing list were prepared in advance to shorten customs clearance time.
Result
The cargo was delivered exactly on time — in 20 days. The sheets arrived without scratches or deformation, and fast customs clearance avoided storage charges.

What it means for a metals supplier
Long and heavy products are protected by the choice of equipment rather than by extra packaging: an Open Top container can be loaded from above and keeps the sheets flat. The other half of the result is paperwork — an export declaration, invoice and packing list ready before departure mean the goods do not wait at the terminal and your customer does not pay for storage.
Why the price is quoted this way
Groupage (LCL) freight is priced per cargo piece: from €200 per piece and from €500 per euro pallet. Project and out-of-gauge moves are always quoted individually, because the price depends on permits, special equipment and the lashing scheme rather than on a rate per kilometre.
