Packing and securing beverages and alcohol
Glass is packed in corrugated cartons with cells, on pallets no higher than 1.2–1.5 m, wrapped in stretch film and strapped. In winter drinks freeze in an unheated trailer — water and beer travel in insulated or heated transport. Barrels and kegs stand upright and are strapped.
Documents and permits
For alcohol: an importer’s licence, excise stamps (applied before import, at a warehouse in the EU or at a customs warehouse), a declaration under TR CU 021/2011 and TR EAEU 047/2018 “On the safety of alcoholic products”, and registration in EGAIS. Soft drinks: a declaration under TR CU 021/2011 and 029/2012 on additives.
The costly mistake made most often
Alcohol without excise stamps may not be imported; the stamps are ordered in advance for a specific volume, and an error in the number of bottles on the invoice leaves part of the consignment “unstamped”. The second mistake is forgetting that wine and spirits from the EU above a certain price fall under restrictions as luxury goods.
Which mode usually works out best
From Europe: a dedicated truck or groupage in an insulated trailer, 7–14 days; from Georgia and Armenia, direct road transport; from overseas, by container. Air is used only for samples. The weight of glass makes the rate weight-based, so FCL is noticeably cheaper than groupage for full volumes.
Export controls and sanctions
EU and UK rules restrict the export of certain alcoholic beverages to Russia, including those above the luxury-goods price threshold. We check the HS code and unit value before quoting and accept only drinks that may be lawfully exported.
