Cut-off
The deadline for cargo to reach the consolidation warehouse before a departure.
Definition
Cut-off is the deadline for accepting goods at the consolidation warehouse before a departure. At Tranzit3 it is every Friday: cargo that arrives before the cut-off leaves on the Saturday departure, anything later goes on the following one.
If your goods are to be collected from your premises, plan the pick-up with a margin before the cut-off.
How it works in practice
On Tranzit3 groupage services the cut-off is Friday: everything received at the consolidation warehouse and covered by documents by then leaves on the next weekly departure. For sea freight the shipping line sets its own deadlines — separately for documents (SI cut-off), for delivering the container to the port and for confirming its weight (VGM).
We plan collection from your premises with a buffer of 1–2 days, so that a delay in loading does not push the shipment back a week.
Cut-off: frequently asked questions
What happens if the goods miss the cut-off?
They leave on the next departure — a week later for groupage, or on the next vessel for sea freight. The price does not change, but the delivery time grows by the interval between departures.
What deadlines apply to sea freight?
Three main ones: the shipping instructions for the bill of lading (SI), the verified gross mass of the container (VGM) and the physical delivery of the container to the port (gate-in). Missing any of them means rebooking onto the next sailing.
How do I know whether my consignment will make it?
The Tranzit3 manager shows the departure schedule with the quote and confirms the collection date. In the customer account, the status “Received at warehouse” means the goods have made the current week’s cut-off.
