A public holiday means no dispatch, no warehouse receiving and no export formalities. Check the calendar of the country before you set a collection date or promise a delivery time to your customer.
Why a logistics manager needs other countries’ holiday calendars
On a public holiday the supplier does not dispatch, the warehouse does not receive goods, and customs brokers and agents do not lodge export declarations. If a collection date falls on a holiday or on a “bridge” day between a holiday and the weekend, the shipment slips by several days, and groupage may miss the weekly consolidation cut-off.
The calendar covers 19 countries: the main European supplier countries, Switzerland, Turkey, China and Russia, where the goods are cleared. The dates come from the open Nager.Date public holiday database and include national non-working days only.
The hardest periods for shipping
- ✓Europe: from 24 December to the first days of January — reduced hours or closures at suppliers, warehouses and carriers.
- ✓Southern Europe (Italy, Spain, France): August, when many factories close for a 2–3-week summer shutdown.
- ✓China: several weeks around Chinese New Year and Golden Week from 1 October.
- ✓Turkey: Ramadan Bayram and Kurban Bayram, often extended with “bridge” days.
- ✓Russia: the New Year holidays in early January, when customs work on a special schedule.
